Poetry for the People.

Discover some poetic and prosodic terms. In linguistics , prosody is the study of elements of speech , including intonation , stress , rhythm and loudness , that occur simultaneously with individual phonetic segments : vowels and consonants. Often, prosody specifically refers to such elements, known as suprasegmentals when they extend across more than one phonetic segment. Prosody reflects the nuanced emotional features of the speaker or of their utterances: their obvious or underlying emotional state , the form of utterance (statement, question, or command), the presence of irony or sarcasm , certain emphasis on words or morphemes, contrast, focus , and so on. Prosody displays elements of language that are not encoded by grammar , punctuation or choice of vocabulary . Linguistic diversity through poetic expression.

On Saturday, 21 March 2026, at 12:00 PM EST, the National Library of Chile will commemorate World Poetry Day 2026 with a public reading open to all in the second-floor hall, Alameda section, at its headquarters located at Alameda 651, Santiago. The initiative forms part of this celebration promoted by UNESCO to foster linguistic diversity through poetic expression and to give visibility to endangered languages . The event will include readings of texts by authors featured in the National Library’s Writers’ Archive and will be attended by Esther Kuisch Laroche, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Santiago, and Linda Redondo Marini, Ambassador of Honduras to Chile. The programme includes opening remarks by Esther Kuisch Laroche and Daniela Schütte, Head of the Writers’ Archive, followed by a reading by the Ambassador of Honduras and a public reading involving around 15 participants.
